History of Chiropractic Medicine

The understanding that the spine is somehow involved in health and wellness, as well as the practice of using manual manipulation as a source of healing, dates back to the time of the ancient Greek philosophers. In fact, Hippocrates once said, "Get knowledge of the spine, for this is the requisite for many diseases."

About Dr. Gary

Hi, I’m Dr Gary Hulin, DDS, DC,-- ‘Dr Gary” as most of my patients know me. If you’re like me, when you visit a professional for the first time you’d like to know something about them, so I thought I’d fill you in a bit.

You might be interested to know why I left a successful dental practice to become a chiropractor. After serving in the US Army Dental Corps in Germany, I opened a practice in the Lowery Medical Arts Building in St Paul, MN. After about 9 years I developed some debilitating health problems- extreme fatigue, depression, swelling of my face and tongue, an inability to concentrate, etc. No one was able to diagnose or treat the condition, and it became so severe I was forced to sell my practice.

As a dentist, I saw a lot of people with Jaw problems, so I studied an osteopathic technique known as Cranial Sacral Therapy. It offered relief to many TMJ pain and migraine sufferers, so I was open to considering less traditional treatment modalities for my own health problems. When all else failed I saw a Chiropractor known for helping people with strange/non specific symptoms like those I was experiencing. Using Applied Kinesiology, his diagnosis was that my issues stemmed from a deleterious reaction to many of the chemicals and other substances found in a dental practice. The homeopathic remedies, detoxification process, adjustments and nutritional supplements prescribed brought me back to health.

After that experience, I wanted to help others as much as he helped me.  I went back to school for my DC and completed a number of additional courses to learn more about the modalities that had given me my life back. That is how I practice today.
